Big Brother is an outdated concept, the current mechanisms of control, security and data collecting better match the character of your ‘Little Sister’.
Comissioned by the Dutch advocacy of inter- net privacy ‘Bits of Freedom’, Tina Cake Line de- veloped a perfromance in an attempt to gene- rate a new view on the concept of ‘Big Brother’
Together with the musicians of Volle Band they developed an audiovisual tour gui- ding through and around the theatre building of the SSBA in Amsterdam, where they pro- posed their ‘new software solution’: Little Sister.
Starting from the role of the security guard, and playing with the conventions of a ‘business presen- tation’, Tina Cake Line offered a new way to look at security and ‘feeling secure’. Instead of being watched, the visitors were invi- ted to start wathing themselves, in this way changing their perspective in the ‘se- cutity spectrum’. They drew parallels between the ‘theatre’: being an actor and spectator, and the ever expanding eld of security, as well as the thought that in the ‘new internet’ everyone has become a spy of everyone, and the infrastructure of social network sites need your information to survive. In this way being as demanding as your ‘Little Sister’
